Introduction to HCS-D

HCS-D is the industry-recognized credential for diagnosing and ICD-10-CM coding expertise in Home Health.
 This certification is governed by the Association of Home Care Coding & Compliance (AHCC).

1. Purpose of HCS-D Certification

The exam validates a candidate’s competency in:

  • Assigning ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes correctly
  • Following CMS guidelines
  • Understanding clinical documentation
  • Applying coding conventions in home health
  • Upholding coding ethics and compliance
  • Working knowledge of coding manuals & supplemental materials
